SAVIOUR® Oil Absorbents

SAVIOUR® Oil Absorbents are made from polypropylene. Polypropylene is an inert synthetic fibers which has high absorption capacity. They are available in a wide range of formats and are light weight and nominally dust-free. They are typically available in white colour and with orange colour net in some formats.

Applications

SAVIOUR® Oil Absorbents are OIL ONLY sorbents. They are typically used on water to contain and adsorb hydrocarbons that are on the surface or in an emulsion in the water. They will float on water and at the same time repel water (as long as surfactants are not also present). They can also be used to control hydrocarbon spills on land.

Formats

SAVIOUR® Oil Absorbents are available in different formats like Long Booms, Mini Booms, Pads, Rolls, Pillows, Sweeps. Combination of these formats is available in Spill Kits of different absorption capacity. They are made from 40gsm Polypropylene Cloth and filling material.

Typical Liquids Adsorbed

SAVIOUR® Oil Absorbents are suitable for adsorbing hydrocarbons and non-polar organic solvents, eg., oil, paraffin, diesel, benzene, alcohols, toluene, trichloroethane, esters and ethers.

Limitations of Use

We recommend that a compatibility test with the liquid of interest be carried out prior to using the absorbent. Do not use on aqueous liquids or aggressive liquids, strong acids, caustic oxidizers or reactive chemicals. In particular there is a risk of degradation with a few corrosive chemicals.

Precautions

Appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn while handling any Oil Spill. SAVIOUR® Oil Absorbents are not in themselves hazardous products, however, they take on the characteristics of the liquids they adsorb. Adequate precautions should be taken when handling or storing hazardous / flammable materials as per the procedures and laws. Users should be informed of the risks incurred in use, storage and disposal of used sorbents.

Disposal

Dispose of used sorbents only in accordance with local and national regulations.

Waste Minimization

SAVIOUR® Oil Absorbents can be disposed of by incineration yielding less than 0.2% ash (ASTM D-482). The high energy value of the sorbents is also favourable for incineration and waste-to-fuel systems.

Absorption / Sorbency

SAVIOUR® Oil Absorbents capacity quoted in the table below is based on testing per ASTM F 726-12 “Standard Test Method for Sorbent Performance of Adsorbents.” Sorbency figures mentioned are nominal; there will be variability in sorbent performance. Capacity and speed of absorption is affected by the absorbed liquid’s polarity, surface tension and viscosity. Ambient temperature may also affect results. Therefore, these numbers may not be directly applicable to your specific use.

Storage

May be stored in Normal Dry Conditions away from direct Sunlight without altering absorption capacity or consistency.

Temperature Range

30 °C to +70 °C
